Hackers have figured out a way to make the PSP and PS3 version of Manhunt 2 from Rockstar be uncensored meaning that the game has been brought back to its original Adults Only rating state.

Hackers seem to do some amazing things and this is a perfect example of that. Manhunt 2 was originally given an Adults Only rating by the ESRB in North America, which kept it from releasing in July on the PSP, PS2, and Nintendo Wii platforms.

Rockstar had to go back to the drawing board and re-work the game to the point where they had to dumd down the violence a bit so that they were allowed to release it. They did so an yesterday on Halloween the game launched finally on the PSP, PS2, and Wii.

Now hackers have apparently found a way to remove all of the censoring by Rockstar. This reverts Manhunt 2 back to its state as an Adults Only game which will please many gamers who were not happy that the game was dumbed down a bit.

An official ISO loader has been found in the latest Sony PSP firmware updates (both 3.50 and 3.51). The file, np9660.prx, has been presumed to run downloaded PSP games (the encrypted ISO image) off of a memory stick.

The presence of the ISO loader may not be significant on its own, but the speculation is that it may be the first steps for a games-on-demand service where full PSP titles (not just PlayStation One emulations) will be made available for download and play, sans UMD. It’s an interesting possibility but at this point just rumors and speculation.

Sony Corp. on Thurs. said that it will release more than 100 first and third-party titles for the Playstation 3, Playstation 2, and PSP handheld in spring 2007.

Titles for the PS3 include Vivendi’s F.E.A.R., Activision’s Spider-Man 3, Tecmo’s Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and SCEA’s MLB 07 The Show.

PS2 offerings include Square Enix’s Dawn of Mana, 2K Games’ Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Bandai Namco’s .hack//G.U. Vol. 2: Reminisce.

PSP handheld games include Sega’s Alien Syndrome, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II, Namco’s Ridge Racer 2, and Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas.

“Our second-quarter line-up of PS3, PSP and PlayStation 2 software titles demonstrates a continued commitment from both SCEA and third-party developers to the PlayStation family of products,” said Peter Dille, Senior Vice President of Marketing, SCEA.

“We are excited by the content being developed by our partners, but are also looking forward to launching PlayStation-branded exclusive games created by our own worldwide studios this quarter and throughout the rest of 2007.”

In addition, Sony will hold digital distribution of new content on its Playstation Store. Titles include Calling All Cars, Gauntlet II, Mortal Kombat II, and Super Puzzle Fighter II HD Remix.

Promise of smaller and lighter console

Sony is to redesign its PSP handheld console, Sony Computer Europe UK managing director Ray Maguire has confirmed.

Although the gaming giant has confirmed that a “smaller, lighter” system will be introduced in the future, it has failed to suggest when that would be.

However, Maguire did say that the redesign will not affect the size of the consoles screen, which is considered to be the handheld key strength over the Nintendo DS.

“Nintendo did it with the relaunch of the Nintendo DS and look at the popularity of that. It went from a big bulky game console to something you actually want to own. The same could easily happen for the PSP,” an industry insider told us.

It won’t be the first time the company has redesigned its products to give flagging sales a further boost. Both the original PlayStation and Plastation 2 had a re-working to make them slimmer and smaller and received a price reduction at the same time.

No date has yet been put on when a new design would be unveiled.

1. Get a Memory Stick for your PSP:

Before you can load any data onto your Sony PSP, you must have a memory stick to store the files onto. The PSP comes with a tiny 32MB card that is only big enough to store a relatively small amount of files. If you plan on watching video clips and installing lots of games on your PSP, you will need to purchase a larger Memory Stick Pro Duo card. These cards come in several different sizes. Exact sizes vary depending on compression rates and quality, but on average, you will need about 5MB for every 1 minute of video. Before you can use a brand new Memory Stick with your PSP, you need to reformat it. If you don’t know how to do this, here’s a quick tutorial on how to format a PSP Memory Stick.

2. Format your Memory Stick on your PSP:

3. Download this test video clip and thumbnail to your computer:

4. Connect the PSP to your computer:

If you haven’t already, you need to connect the PSP to your computer with the USB cable that it came with and put the PSP into USB mode. Press the HOME button located on the bottom left of your PSP and then scroll left to the SETTINGS column. Scroll down to USB CONNECTION and press X. The Memory Stick inside your PSP will now mount on your computer.

5. Copy the video onto your PSP:

In order to playback video files on your PSP, you must copy them into the proper folder. The correct file path is MP_ROOT > 100MNV01. If you place video files anywhere else on the Memory Stick, they will not playback properly. If the MP_ROOT and 100MNV01 folders don’t already exist on your PSP’s Memory Stick, then you need to make two new folders and name them in ALL CAPS. Just a reminder, the 100MNV01 folder goes inside the MP_ROOT folder. The PSP requires video (M4V) and thumbnail (THM) files must be named starting with M4V and ending with five random numbers ie. M4V12345.

6. Watch the video on your PSP:

Once the video file has finished transferring onto your Memory Stick, you can disconnect the PSP from your computer. Scroll over to the VIDEO column on your Sony PSP and you should now see the video file. Press X to watch it. Enjoy!
