Reluctant to update your PSP to the latest firmware? You may want to reconsider. The latest firmware offers PSP users the ability to access T-Mobile’s wi-fi service for free. T-Mobile HotSpots can be found at over 8,000 locations across the US, and can be found in Starbucks, Borders, FedEx Kinko’s, Hyatt, Red Roof Inns, Sofitel and Novotel Hotels, and select airports. Now, you’ll be able to frag friends through Infrastructure almost anywhere in the US … for free! How sweet is that?I went to a Starbucks to test it out, and found the process is quite easy:

1. Bring your PSP® system to a location that provides a T-Mobile HotSpot. (Refer to the T-Mobile HotSpot U.S. Location Map.)
2. Select (Network Settings) under (Settings).
3. Select [Infrastructure Mode].
4. Select [New Connection].
5. Select [Use Wireless Hotspot].
6. Select the T-Mobile HotSpot icon.
7. If you have an existing T-Mobile HotSpot account, select [Enter User Credentials].
   Enter your user ID and password, and then press the right button.
   or
   If you do not have an account, select [Use Promotional Access] to sign up for a complimentary six-month T-Mobile HotSpot account. (To qualify for this promotional access, you must authenticate your PSP® system to the T-Mobile HotSpot network prior to March 28, 2008.)
8. Check the contents of the settings list.
9. Save the settings.

Intro:

Lots of questions pop up in these forums lately on how to install Despertar del Cementerio v3 (DCv3).
Numerous threads on the matter are created, because the newbies can’t find their answers.

This is not a complete howto, but should get people in the right direction.
And if they do have any questions, they can ask here instead of starting a new thread.

What is DCv3 ?

DCv3 is a powerfull tool created by the greatest devs in the psp scene. It is an evolved version of the Pandora’s Battery. Pandora was first created to unbrick psp’s. However Pandora wasn’t compatible with the psp slim. Therefore DC was coded. The latest version (v3) has full compatibility with classic and slim psp’s.

DCv3 allows you to:
- Write custom fw M33 3.71-2 to ANY model psp (regardless of fw version) to date
- Write official fw 3.71 to ANY model psp (regardless of fw version) to date
- Create a nand dump from the psp (the nand holds the fw on the psp)
- Write a nand dump to the psp.

NOTE: DO NOT USE A DUMP FROM ANOTHER PSP. IT WILL DESTROY THE IDSTORAGE. THERE’S NO WAY OF REGENERATING THE IDSTORAGE. THE ONLY WAY OF RECOVERING THE IDSTORAGE IS FROM A NAND DUMP FROM YOUR OWN PSP. THEREFORE ALWAYS MAKE A NAND DUMP BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING WITH DCv3 !

To let the memstick do it’s magic you’ll need a battery which will put the psp in ’service mode’. There’s several options how to obtain such a battery.

1) Create it with a homebrew capable psp. That’s a psp running cfw or official 1.50 fw.
2) Create it by hard modding a battery. This is not for beginners, it is potentially dangerous as you are opening your battery.
3) Buy a battery from the internet. Your on your own on this one, as I do not promote the financial exploitation of psp devs.

Once you have the battery all you need now are the correct files on the memstick. Once again there are several ways of putting them on.

1) Create the stick using a homebrew capable psp.
2) Create the stick without a homebrew capable psp.

That’s all the options we have. Now you know what DCv3 is, where it came from and how you can get it.

If you do not have access to a homebrew capable psp use the folowing files:

- Memstick Easy Installer Run it by clicking Start.exe follow the prompt and choose Option 4.

- Hard modding your battery This will tell you exactly how and which chip to alter.

- Free service Go here and let someone near you create you a DCv3 kit.

If you have access to a homebrew capable psp (slim or classic) use the following files:

- To create the DCv3 yourself you need the 1.50 eboot, the 3.40 eboot and the 3.71 eboot. Also use the DCv3 attachment.

- To create the battery use one of the two tools. Slim users and classic psp with M33 3.71 without 1.50 kernel use the 3.xx tool.
Both tools will also allow you to convert your battery back to normal.

That should get all of you started. I know it’s not complete. For usage of DCv3, check the readme included.

It’s been a while since I’ve played with my PSP. Recently I got my hands on the Sony Location Free Base station and decided to try out the LF Player on the PSP. To do this I needed to upgrade my PSP’s firmware, but I did not want to lose my homebrew, otherwise all of my LUA apps, and other software would stop working. I’ve decided to figure out how to use DevHook to emulate a new firmware, and while I was expecting a long and complicated process, it was actually really simple to do on my PSP.

This is due to the hard work of a lot of developers, and I applaud their efforts for making it to this point. A user on PSPUpdates has posted a simple tutorial detailing the process. What it does is pretty slick… You need to download 3 things. The normal PSP Update PBP, DevHook, and a script that will extract the update file and make it usable in DevHook. In less than 5 minutes I was running an emulated PSP Firmware 3.01.

I was able to get the locationfree base station streaming to the PSP after manually linking the two using Sony’s Setup mode button. When the base station is streaming to the PSP, the LF LCDTV just goes black. No message is displayed to let you know what’s happening and why the video signal has been lost. Apparently you can only stream to one device at a time. Pretty Lame.

The video quality to the PSP wasn’t great, watchable, but not for a long period of time. The sound wasn’t very good, but I think that was because the sound on my cable box was too low. I cranked the PSP to it’s max volume and it was not loud and sounded very tinny.

Bottom line, the LCDTV + Sony base station works great, but the PSP player is not very useful, and the 1 stream limit needs to be increased, I’m not sure if slingbox has the same limitations, but I think I’m going to give that a shot next.

Also, you may want to take a look at PMP, which will allow you to stream media from your PC to your PSP. It works quite well, and the video quality is not bad. They have just released version 1.02 which includes even more GUI improvements and lots more. This is a much better streaming solution for your media.

Sony’s looking to make their latest PSP firmware upgrade, version 3.30, too appetizing for all the homebrew users out there to pass up. In addition to officially sanctioned (albeit tempermental) full resolution video support, Sony has upped the ante by offering 3.30 users 6-months of complimentary access to T-Mobile WiFi HotSpots, available at over 8000 locations across the US including Starbucks, Borders, FedEx Kinko’s, Hyatt, Red Roof Inns, Sofitel and Novotel Hotels, and select airports. Yeah, for free.

To access the service, follow this guide. Have an innate distrust of guides? We’ll condense it for you: turn on your PSP within range of a T-Mobile HotSpot, select the T-Mobile HotSpot icon under Network Settings, select [Use Promotional Access] if you ain’t got an account already, and then get your game on! Now, if only more PSP games supported Infrastructure mode.

One of the great things about the PSP is the awesome ability to use a web browser at any wifi spot you encounter. Well sometimes I want to see Youtube content to a freind but the PSP has a VERY old version of flash and because of this Youtube does not work under normal circumstances.

Now there is a way to view all you favorite Youtube videos on the go. A new site that has launched, and is still in beta actually, is set to make thing alot easier for the PSP user.

The only drawback is that you still need a PC to do this, yeah I know it sucks, but it is a step in the right direction.

Here is how to watch all you favorite YouTube vids on the go.

1. Find a video you want to watch, in this case I will point to a video I made of me playing Outrun 2006 on a dual monitor setup direct feed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTkazvfVtLk (yes I know I suck LOL)
2. Go to http://vixy.net/ and copy and paste the URL (web address) into the provided space
3. Select the mp4 format (iPod/PSP)
4. Hit the convert button and wait for the conversion to take place
5. when it is done you will be taken to a download page, but the PSP can not download these videos with the URLs this site spits out, so we use a trick go to http://lix.in/ and copy and paste the download link into the space provided, you can’t miss it… no I mean it, and hit “Protect Link”
6. you now have a short PSP freindly url you can use on the PSP web browser to download the newly converted video
7. click all links needed to get back to the download page and hit save on the PSP and then make sure you save to the /VIDEO folder of your PSP
8. after a bit of a download your video is now on you PSP memory stick ready to watch anywhere you take you psp to

Play a game in multiplayer mode against a friend when only one of you has the  UMD for the game. It’s a rather simple hack that’s easy to perform, yet saves  everyone money in the long run (besides Sony of course)

Looks like Sony tried to slip us one in their latest PSP Firmware update. Sure it’s got a new memory saving mode for the PSP’s web browser and support for new PlayStation Network games, but what they didn’t tell you is that for homebrew fans Firmware 3.10 will secretly brick your PSP. Anyone out there install the new update?

1. If your PSP is firmware 1.50, copy the folders kxploitpatcher and kxploitpatcher% which are in the “1.50only” folder to ms0:/PSP/GAME/ and run the patcher first.

if you are already running custom firmware you don’t need to do this so skip to step 2

2. if you already have firmware SE/OE, copy the folder M33CREATOR to ms0:/PSP/GAME150.

If you have 1.50 copy to ms0:/PSP/GAME

3. Download Sony official 3.51 firmware update from here >3.51 UPDATE
extract with winrar and rename EBOOT.PBP to 351.PBP and copy into the ms0:/PSP/GAME150/M33CREATOR/ or for 1.50 users to ms0:/PSP/GAME/M33CREATOR/

4. Download sony official 1.50 firware update from here >1.5 UPDATE
extract with winrar and rename EBOOT.PBP to 150.PBP and copy into the ms0:/PSP/GAME150/M33CREATOR/ or for 1.50 users to ms0:/PSP/GAME/M33CREATOR/

5. on your PSP, run the “3.51 M33 CREATOR”. Once finished, press X, the PSP will return to the XMB, and a new program, the “3.51 M33UPDATE” appears!

6. now run “3.51 M33UPDATE”.

7. Once it finishes, press X to shut off the psp. Restart manually.

8. Down a shot of Vodka and celebrate.

Q. My battery is under 75% can i still flash the firmware >
A. Yes, just hold triangle and L trigger whilst the flasher is loading (do this at your own risk)

Q. Do homebrew and isos still work in the normal way?
A. Yes, homebrew, iso/cso etc load just like OE firmware, iso/cso go in the ISO folder and homebrew goes in GAME150

Q. Will my 3.40 OE customisations work (icons/fonts etc)?

A . No this will install fine over the top.

Q. Does cwcheat work?
A. i’ve heard reports of games not loading when the cwcheat.prx is on. cwcheatpops.prx works

Q. I can’t enter USB mode.
A. go into recovery mode and toggle flash1. delete config.se. If you have customised your psp after installing make sure you have not flashed system_plugin_fg.rco to your flash0

Q. Can I use the EBOOT the installer creates on another psp to install custom firmware instead of creating one again?
A. it seems the EBOOT is generic, so yes.

Q. Does the brightness fix work?
A. Yes it does.

It’s out, folks! Dark_Alex has finally released the latest in his series of Open Edition firmware - the much-awaited 3.30 Open Edition Rev A! This is serious cause for celebration especially after days of waiting for DaX to finally give word on what’s up with his work (and what’s up with his PSP).

3.30 OE-A retains all of the original Sony 3.30 FW functions - PSOne game library support, Internet navigator, etc. - but because Dark_AleX is THE man, he’s added a lot of features and changes to his latest custom FW (some taken from PSPGen’s release notes).

• Homebrew support under either 1.50 or 3.30 kernel
• Region spoofing
• Patched a protection that prevents the FW to load higher firmware modules
• Fixed a bug that could have caused instability in 3.10 OE after recovering from sleep mode
• Recovery Mode
• Direct launching of PSOne games (converted with PSP format)
• Direct launching of demos and homebrews
• Possibility of regulating hte speed of the PSP’s processor

DAX says this doesn’t support popsloader at the moment due to “Sony rearranging again the module list of pspbtcnf_pops”, but rest assured that the great dev will be making a new version that will support all current pops in 3.10 OE, 3.30 OE and maybe 3.03 OE-C. The dev also tried testing the customization of icons, but that didn’t work out.

For the full installation guide, please go over the Readme. It’s there for a reason. We know you’re all excited about the 3.30 OE-A but be mindful of what you’re doing. Take caution. This can only be installed to PSPs with firmwares 1.50, 2.71 SE, 3.02 OE, 3.03 OE, or 3.10 OE. Downgrade first if your PSP has a different FW. 3.30 OE-A cannot be installed to PSPs with FW 3.10, 3.11, or 3.30.
